From classical beginnings to distorted ends

My musical journey began at the age of six, with classical piano lessons that laid the foundation for a deep and lasting love of sound. Like many, my tastes began to shift during my teenage years. Around the age of fourteen, I stumbled into the record collection of a friends' father—a treasure trove of late '60s and early '70s rock, featuring legends like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, and The Doors. It was a turning point.

Not long after, that same friend and I formed our first band: Goose-Flesh. What started as a teenage experiment quickly evolved into a stable lineup playing original songs, heavily inspired by the raw energy and riff-driven sound of 1970s hard rock. I picked up the electric guitar and taught myself how to play, soon becoming just as comfortable with strings as I was with keys. We even enjoyed a bit of local recognition after winning bandcontest 'Het Krakende Ei van Barneveld' - a proud moment.

Sadly, Goose-Flesh came to an end in 1998 following the tragic accident of our drummer. A few years later, in 2001, I joined another local band—Upper Tree Leaf, which soon became known as ZEV. To this day, we still rehearse every week, playing our own blend of ‘90s-inspired punk, (hard) rock and grunge.

In the mid-2000s, I began building a home studio in my attic—a personal playground where I could write, record, and produce music on my own terms. Over time, that humble space evolved into what I now call Liquid Dream Studio (3.0): a dedicated creative environment built for experimentation and self-expression.

One of the things I enjoy most in the studio is playing every instrument myself. Beyond piano and guitar, I’ve taught myself to handle bass and drums as well—and occasionally even vocals. There's something incredibly satisfying about shaping a track layer by layer, building a complete sound from scratch with nothing but instruments, microphones, and ideas. It’s not about perfection, but about capturing energy and honesty in the moment.

Out of this DIY spirit grew Kick Ass! Records, my self-made (and self-aware) label through which I release home-produced material. Under the artist name Bad Publicity, I create music that blends gritty rock with progressive elements, symphonic textures, and metal undertones—always driven by instinct and curiosity rather than commercial rules.

While my roots lie in classical music and hard rock, my influences have widened over the years, and I now enjoy exploring all kinds of sonic terrain. Whether it’s a tight punk riff, an ambient synth landscape, or an epic, layered instrumental, the joy is in the process of making it come alive.

Here you'll find a selection of my musical projects—past and present. Raw, personal, sometimes loud, sometimes subtle. But always created with love, curiosity, and a desire to explore sound without boundaries.
