About Bad Publicity

Bad Publicity is what happens when you mix four decades of band sweat, broken strings, attic dreams, and late-night studio grinds into one noisy, messy, fully DIY project.

I started out as a classically trained pianist, but quickly got pulled into the world of overdriven guitars, filthy basslines, and loud drums. Somewhere around age 14, I picked up a guitar and co-founded my first band: Goose-Flesh — a raw, 70s-inspired hard rock band that made some local waves (and even won a band contest or two). Not long after breaking up, after an unfortunate accident in 1998, I joined what would become my long-term band: ZEV.  Up to today still blasting 90s-inspired rock, punk, and grunge.

In my self-built attic lair — Liquid Dream Studio — I write, record, and produce everything myself. Guitars, bass, drums, keys, sometimes even vocals. All under the label Kick Ass! Records, released under the name Bad Publicity.

But the noise doesn’t end there. Under Schwantz Art, I shoot photos with my iPhone — usually while traveling or wandering around — hunting for simplicity, scale, machinery, or that one brutal detail that says it all. No distractions. No apologies.

No management. No polished PR.
Just sound and vision — exactly how I want it.
